MacFont allows to display/print a list of your TrueType fonts using editable templates.
窶｢ﾂ How to print installed TrueType Fonts:
1 - Select Load窶ｦ from the File menu and click the System button.
2 - Remove the fonts you don't want to print selecting them and choosing Clear from the Edit menu.
3 - If not alredy done, select which printing template to use choosing Select窶ｦ from the Template menu (or double click the template icon holding down the <Option> key).
4 - Choose Print Fonts from the File menu .
窶｢ﾂ How to print UNinstalled TrueType Fonts:
1 - Drag the fonts (or the folder that contains them) onto the MacFont icon(*) or choose Load Fonts窶ｦ from the File menu and open the font(s).
2 - DISABLE BACKGROUND PRINTING(**).
3 - If not alredy done, select whish printing template to use choosing Select窶ｦ from the Template menu (or double click the default template icon holding down the <Option> key).
4 - Choose Print Fonts from the File menu .
(*) Holding down the <Option> key while dragging a font will tell MacFont to print it (using the default template) and quit.
(**) MacFont temporary loads uninstalled fonts during the printing process. If you try to print them in background, the fonts are no more available and the system uses the default application font (usually Geneva) instead of them.
窶｢ﾂ How to create a template:
1 - Choose New from the Template menu to create a new one or Open窶ｦ to open an existing template (or double click the default template icon to open it).
A new template contains the following sections:
ﾂ Header / Footer : they'll be printed respectively at the begining and the end of every printed page. Text(*) and format (font, size, style, justification, borders) can be edited selecting the part and choosing the needed item from the Format menu. You can also show/hide these parts (Show from the Format menu).
(*) The text may contain the following variables (always preceeded by the "&" character):
&d for the date
&h for the time
&p for the page number
ﾂ Font Rectangle: It contains the example text that will be used to print the fonts. During printing, every rectangle matches a font in the list. Text and format (size, style, justification) can be edited.
A newly created template contains 3 * 4 = 12 fonts per page. Choose Horizontal / Vertical from the Format menu to modify this number.
ﾂ Name-Style / File Name : they'll be printed respectively at the top and the bottom of every printed font rectangle. Format (font, size, style, justification, borders) can be edited. At printing time, Name-Style will be replaced by the name of the font used to print the rectangle below. File Name will be replaced by the name of the font file/suitcase. These parts can be hidden.
2 - After having modified the template, save it choosing Save from the Template menu . Saving it in the MacFont folder will allow you to find it easily clicking the Go Home button in the open dialog.
窶｢ﾂ How to select the default template:
1 - Choose Select from the Template menu or double click the template icon holding down the <Option> key. If needed, you can click the Go Home button to open the MacFont directory.
2 - Select the template you want and click the Open button. At printing time, MacFont will automatically open (without displaying it) the default template to format the pages.
NB: If a template is currently opened while printing fonts (and is the frontmost window), Macfont will use it instead of the default one.
窶｢ﾂ NOTES:
As you may have noticed, the Macfont list doesn't contain only the family font names (as in the Font menu), but every style variations defined in the fonts families. For instance, the Apple's "Courier" font actually contains the fonts "Courier" and "Courier-Bold", grouped into a single family named "Courier". MacFont loads only the styles defined in this way, making impossibile to print a font using an undefined face (i.e. Courier italic), even if such face may be created by the system if needed.
窶｢ﾂ COMPATIBILITY:
MacFont works on all Macs from Macintosh Plus with system 6.07 or greater. It's a FAT binary application.
A little bug: Using system 7.5 (and maybe other versions, I didn't try) of the Mac OS, the system fonts Geneva, Chicago, and Monaco are not loaded unless you open them as uninstalled fonts.
